Optimizing Biogas Plants – Modeling and Simulation of Dark Fermentation for Enhanced Hydrogen Production

The presentation will focus on the modeling and simulation of dark fermentation to increase hydrogen production.

The focus is on the integration of this process into existing biogas plants to improve their overall efficiency through the combined production of methane and hydrogen. The influence of process parameters such as substrate concentration, pH value and hydraulic retention time on the hydrogen yield will be investigated.

The simulations will be performed using a continuously stirred anaerobic bioreactor model, which will be validated by results from the HyPerFerment research project. The goal is to demonstrate the potential of dark fermentation for sustainable hydrogen production on an industrial scale.
